Rhythmic Gymnastics in Images

A collection of Australia's favourite RG images as told by clubs around the nation

August 19, 2020

Rhythmic gymnastics is arguably the most picturesque sport.

The dynamism, the palpable emotions, incredible show of strength and flexibility, wrapped up in crystals and colour, there is no doubt that rhythmic gymnastics is photogenic.

For World Photo Day 2020, we have collected a few of our favourite images, and showcased some from key clubs in Australia too. Photos are more than what they appear, they represent our aspirations and stories untold. You know what they say... a picture says a thousand words.

The Rhythmic Life's Faves

To start off, here's some of our favourites.

Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics Club's Faves:

Elite (Burleigh Heads, QLD) has featured this image of Riana from the Australian National Championships. Check out those beautiful lines from this up and coming Aussie youngster! The image on the right is from Russian pocket rocket Lala Kramenko. Lala's extreme flexibility has always been able to be showcased from her awesome use of strength and control. You'd hope the music started quick smart with this start pose!

Le Ray Gymnastics Academy's Faves:

Le Ray Gymnastics Academy (Greenacre, NSW) picks the awesome picture of the gymnast in motion. The gymnast just happens to be Le Ray Gymnastics Academy's head coach Danielle Prince Tischljar (2016 Olympian). If this photo of Selezneva (RUS) doesn't prove rhythmic gymnasts could probably touch type with their toes, we don't know what does!

Shire/St Catherines Faves:

Shire/St Catherine's (Waverley, NSW) fave images depict Charlotte, an Australian elite gymnast. We love the strong starting position and look of determination has us on the edge of our seats! This image of Halkina (BLR) shows resolution in another light. "She also has brilliant determination and stamina which inspires us to be a better gymnasts." (Erin Holzhauser)

Prahran's Faves:

Prahran's (Windsor, VIC) top image pics are of Miyabi, Australian Sub-Junior Champion. Rhythmic gymnasts... the only athletes who can handstand with apparatus in their legs with as much grace! Their other chosen image is of relevè. Gymnasts have incredibly powerful feet, capable of jumping, leaping, balancing and spinning en pointè! Seeming fragility, remarkable strength.

Le Ray Gymnastics @ Abbotsleigh's Faves:

Le Ray Gymnastics @ Abbotsleigh (Wahroonga, NSW) love the image of their own Senior elite gymnast Charlotte and the emotions her physicality and apparatus show (not to mention the beautiful leotard!). The image of Averina (RUS) is an impressive shot of what needs to be achieved in a split second of a routine.

Aelita's Faves:

Aelita (Adelaide, SA) loves this image of their very own Brittany. This photo represents what can be achieved with hard work and passion, the smile says it all... rhythmic gymnasts, they make it look easy! The image on the right is of Maria Petrova (1992). This starting pose was innovative and interesting, she was loved for her expression and unique style.

Le Ray Gymnastics @ PLC Sydney's Faves:

Le Ray Gymnastics @ PLC (Croydon, NSW) treasure this photo of Zoe. The ambition portrayed on her face is palpable, and we almost can wait for the music to start! The image of Salos (BLR) shows complete control whilst manipulating the apparatus, the constant motion of the ribbon evident and all the while emoting in perfect character.

Aspire's Faves:

Aspire (Nathan, QLD) loves this image of their very own club leader Lidiia, and image of Olympian Anna Rizatdinova (UKR) on the right. This was Anna's ending position, the immense strength to hold a position with such grace embodies rhythmic gymnastics.

Le Ray Gymnastics @ Ravenswood

Le Ray Gymnastics @ Ravenswood (Gordon, NSW) love this image of Senior elite gymnast Ella who shows beautiful extension, balancing the ball AND upside down?! The image of Bianka Panova (BUL) from 1988 shows us just how much rhythmic gymnastics has changed, but also remained consistent. Namely, the effortless beauty, elegance and grace.

Avanti's Faves:

Avanti (Hurstville, NSW) loves this picture of their own gymnast Aqeelah who shows beautiful elegance right up to the finger tips. The image of Vitrychenko (UKR) a year before the 2000 Olympics shows the perfect poise of rhythmic gymnastics, the ultimate control in a stunning shape.
